Under the direct supervision of the Tooling Manager, the Tooling Technician is responsible for the loading, installing, removing, and maintaining machine parts necessary for effective production of Footprint products.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Examples of key duties are interpreted as being descriptive and not restrictive in nature. Incumbents routinely perform approximately 80% of the duties below.

  • Maintain forming dies including drilling and screening of new dies and re-screening / repairing existing dies
  • Mold disassembly and reassembly of new and current die sets
  • Work with appropriate staff to develop tooling and fixtures that result in the manufacturing of high-quality products.
  • Responsible for all aspects of the tool installation process including, but not limited to, set-up and tear down, troubleshooting, equipment maintenance and workflow.
  • Detect and report defective materials or questionable conditions to management or designee.
  • Reduce machine downtime. Maintain all tools and equipment that are used including the daily cleaning of tool room machinery. Regularly perform milling, turning, drilling, tapping, de-burring, sawing, and sanding tasks.
  • Provide molded components in a timely manner to ensure production and R&D schedules are met.
  • Work with production personnel and R&D to ensure components meet requirements, adjusting as required.
  • Observe machine operation to detect workpiece defects or machine malfunction.
  • Operate fabrication shop and machine shop machinery and equipment.
  • Operate highly technical and advanced computerized numerical control (CNC) machines.
  • Set-up equipment by setting adjustments to match specifications; testing tolerances.
  • Verify parts by using precision measuring instruments, testing production routine.
  • Maintain a safe, ergonomic work environment.
  • Other duties may be directed by the manager.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Understand how to use basic hand tools
  • Understand detailed shop drawings and blueprints.
  • Must have good organizational skills.
  • Must exhibit high integrity and honesty.
  • Ability to read, write, analyze, and interpret technical procedures, blueprints, diagrams, schematics, equipment instructions, requirements, and business correspondences.
  • Ability to effectively and appropriately present information and respond to questions from various groups.
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
  • Ability to troubleshoot problems and produce suggestions for corrections and improvements

Candidates/incumbents must meet the minimum qualifications as detailed below.

  • 3 to 5 years of experience using hand operated tool room equipment.
  • Knowledge and understanding of mold and die components and their respective characteristics.
