  • Giving fresh produce growers in California, USA the tools to optimize production with less food waste
  • Helping irrigated farmers in Nebraska, USA to manage water more efficiently and sustainably to protect our water supply

Join our innovative team as a Principal Hardware Engineer, where you'll be instrumental in the success and advancement of our sensing platform, including the Arable Mark 3 and Arable Vision. Your role involves:

  • Managing domestic and off-shore manufacturing
  • Overseeing and validate ODM designs
  • Creating specifications and supporting documentation for new and existing designs
  • Defining and Drive prototyping efforts
  • Participating in the testing and validation of products and features
  • Working effectively with cross-functional teams to drive to the desired outcome
  • Managing vendor relationships and specifications for new and existing components

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Physics, Computer Science, or equivalent.
  • 6+ years of experience.
  • Have taken at least one PCB through the design lifecycle.
  • Experience with schematic capture and layout.
  • Experience with I2C, SPI and UART interfaces.
  • Experience with board bring-up and reworking PCBAs.
  • Familiarity with electronic lab equipment and debug environments.
  • Familiarity with regulatory testing and processes.
  • Excellent organization skills.
  • NPI process experience.
  • Proven analytical and problem-solving capabilities.
  • Quality-minded team player with excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Can-do attitude with good prioritization skills.
  • Self starter with the ability to work independently with little direction.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Advanced degree in a relevant field.
  • 8+ years of experience.
  • Experience bringing several products through the full design lifecycle
  • Experience with managing off-shore teams
  • Good C programming skills
  • Experience with wireless product design and testing (including WiFi, BLE and cellular)
  • Experience with RTOS systems design (FreeRTOS a plus)
  • Experience with the design, implementation and support of agricultural products.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Become a key part of the engineering team, making a real contribution to the Arable products by owning and driving their hardware development, implementation, and support
  • Interfacing with worldwide hardware and CM groups inside and outside of Arable
  • Direct and guide our local shops and Asian ODM in the design, testing and production of Arable products
  • Develop and maintain various parts of the Arable Mark hardware, including new product design, product testing/qualification, NPI, debugging, and problem resolution
  • Prototype hardware and firmware for new products, features and testing
  • Provide support and updates for the manufacturing test fixtures & processes
  • Work with QA to produce comprehensive test coverage
  • Help manage bug tracking and resolution, facilitating root-cause analysis and corrective actions for system and manufacturing issues
  • Write specifications for interfaces, testing, architecture, and processes
  • Work with external vendors to select and procure components
  • Provide weekly status updates to track progress
  • Collaborate across teams to ensure proper product integration.
