As we get closer to cutting the ribbon on a first-in-kind cultivated meat plant and prepare for commercialization, we are seeking an Associate Attorney to join our dynamic team in Chicago.
Summary of role and team:
Reporting to the Chief Legal Officer, you will be responsible for providing legal support across various areas, including general commercial contracts, employment/labor issues, corporate governance, and managing the legal department's budget and operations. This role is essential in ensuring our company's compliance with all relevant laws and regulations while supporting our business objectives.
Your day-to-day
General Commercial Contracts
Draft, review, and negotiate a variety of commercial agreements, including sales and supplier contracts, leases, NDAs, and MTAs.
Provide legal advice on contractual matters to internal stakeholders.
Employment/Labor
Handle legal aspects of employment-related matters, including hiring and separation agreements, benefits, and disputes.
Ensure compliance with labor laws and regulations.
Corporate Governance and Filings
Assist in corporate governance matters, including drafting by-laws, corporate formation documents, and maintaining good standing.
Manage corporate filings and ensure compliance with state and federal regulations.
Managing Legal Department Budgets and Operations
Oversee the legal department's budget, ensuring cost-effective legal services.
Implement and manage legal operations systems to enhance efficiency.
Managing External Counsel and Vendors
Coordinate and manage relationships with external counsel and other legal service providers.
Ensure high-quality and timely legal services from external vendors
Requirements
· Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school
· 5-8 years of experience gained, ideally, through a combination of law firm and in-house roles
· Strong preference for in-house experience in the CPG manufacturing sector
· Technical background in life sciences preferred
· Strong client counseling and communication skills, with the ability to effectively interact with various stakeholders
· Proven ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities in a fast-paced environment
· Exceptional analytical and problem-solving skills and strong detail orientation
· Proactive, solutions-oriented self-starter who works well independently
· Team-oriented with a collaborative approach to achieving goals
