Description

Believer Meats is an innovative start-up revolutionizing the food industry through the development and commercialization of cultivated meat products. Leveraging cutting-edge biotechnology, we aim to provide sustainable, ethical, and high-quality meat alternatives to consumers worldwide. As we near completion of a new plant and prepare for commercialization, we are seeking multiple experienced Ammonia Technicians to join our team.

Summary of role and team:

The Ammonia Facilities Technician will contribute to the efficient and effective operation and maintenance of various facility-related systems and equipment at Believer Meat’s new cultivated meat plant. This includes ammonia refrigeration (NH3) systems, all accompanying equipment, and general building upkeep. This role performs preventative maintenance, does regular inspections, and documents activities as needed. The Ammonia Facilities technician will work collaboratively across departments and contribute to the Believer’s commitment to safety and quality.

Schedule: 12-hour shifts on a rotating schedule.

This is a full-time, hourly role eligible for holiday pay, PTO, and retirement and health benefits.

Your day-to-day

Ammonia Refrigeration (NH3) Systems

  • Assist with the operation and maintenance of ammonia refrigeration systems, ensuring compliance with safety and environmental regulations through our PSM program.
  • Conduct regular inspections and maintenance to prevent leaks and ensure system integrity.
  • Able to read and interpret P&ID’s

HVAC Systems

  • Contribute to the operation and minor maintenance and troubleshooting of HVAC systems to ensure a comfortable and controlled environment within the facility.

Building Upkeep

  • Assist with general building maintenance and repairs, including electrical, plumbing, and structural components.
  • Ensure the facility is well-maintained and meets all safety and regulatory standards.

Safety

  • Perform regular safety audits, wear PPE, and follow best practices and established safety procedures in all work activities.

Requirements

The ideal candidate will have 3+ years of experience in ammonia facilities maintenance, preferably in the biotech or food manufacturing environment. We are seeking an Ammonia Facilities Technician with demonstrated experience performing quality work, taking initiative and developing expertise with a variety of systems. The incumbent will have a combination of skills, education, and skills that demonstrate the ability to fulfill all aspects of this job description.

  • Strong knowledge in ammonia refrigeration (NH3) systems, HVAC systems, and general building maintenance.
  • Ability to serve on the facility HAZMAT response team (training provided).
  • Certified in ammonia refrigeration operator 1, RETA 1 (Required)
  • Certified in ammonia refrigeration operator 2, RETA 2 (or ability to obtain within 30 days of hire.
  • CARO or CIRO or CRST (preferred but not required)
  • Industrial electrical experience preferred (control voltage, 120v, 240v, 480v)
  • Basic PLC experience preferred.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to work well under pressure.
  • OSHA 10 (training provided)
  • Awareness of good manufacturing processes (GMP) for the food industry.
  • Ability to obtain Industrial Lift Operator certificate.
  • Ability to work flexible hours and shifts of up to 12 hours.
  • Strong computer skills (Microsoft Office, company and equipment software).
  • Ability to pass pre-employment background screening, drug test, and physical.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Must be able to pass a PFT (Pulmonary Function Test), Respiratory Fit Test, and physical.
  • Mobility: Ability to move around manufacturing facilities, including navigating stairs, ramps, and uneven surfaces. Must be able to access confined spaces and work in tight areas as required.
  • Manual Dexterity: Proficiency in using hand and power tools for maintenance and repairs. Ability to manipulate small components and perform intricate tasks.
  • Physical Endurance: Capable of standing, walking, and performing physical tasks for extended periods. Able to lift, push, and pull heavy equipment or materials as needed.
  • Visual and Auditory Acuity: Must have keen eyesight and hearing to identify potential safety hazards and diagnose equipment issues. Ability to distinguish colors and operate machinery with visual indicators.
  • Lifting and Carrying: Ability to lift and carry objects weighing up to 50 pounds as needed. Proficient in using appropriate lifting techniques to prevent injury.
