Department Overview

The Digital Farming team is focused on establishing the most innovative testing network spanning Research & Development and on farm with Benson Hill growers where we design experiments, test & advance our latest products and corresponding business models. We are a diverse, energized, and highly experienced team of professionals with a proven track record of delivering novel outcomes that have transformed areas of the Ag Tech sector. We are focused on designing for and delivering the scientific and analytical insight geared around the commercial objectives with the greatest value and impact. We collaborate across a broad spectrum of internal Technology and Commercial teams along with key 3rd party partnerships to design and deliver on these outcomes.

Position Summary

Benson Hill is looking for a passionate and proven Digital Agronomist (Research Associate I) to be a part of our Digital Farming team. Benson Hill has developed diverse varieties with superior nutritional value and strong in-field performance that create value for growers. We are looking for a data manager, with an emphasis on spatial data collection to fuel our proprietary analytics platform. The successful candidate will work across a diverse set of teams across the organization to meet business objectives and will have a solution-oriented mindset.

You will be responsible for:

• Execution of field scale experimental programs including the in-field evaluation of new Management of the collection of farm and field level data from Benson Hill R&D and Commercial operations including those coming from new technologies for acquisition of unique data layers (ie drone, weather, soils, etc)
• Metricizing completeness and health of enterprise data collection objectives throughout the season
• Partnering with internal teams to meet the field testing and data collection needs to support the Technology organization and Benson Hill Business Units’ key outcomes

• Demonstration of value creation of Benson Hill products to drive new technology adoption
• Conducting quality control test to verify seed purity

Education and Experience:

• Bachelors degree preferred (minimum Associates degree and 3+ years of experience) in database management and data collection.

Qualifications:

• Experience working in industry setting associated with agriculture
• Desire to work in a fast-paced, cross-functional environment with the ability to be agile in the face of change
• Excellent planner, organizer, critical thinker, and problem solver
• Strong record of creative and strategic thinking with the willingness to be bold
• Exceptional Excel and data systems knowledge
• Knowledge of precision mapping platforms and techniques
• Ability to travel up to 50% of time during peak windows of the North American growing season
• Ability to obtain UAV pilots license

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience with platforms such as FieldView, MyJohnDeere, Track, Hobo, Quicksite, and CropTrak
• Familiarity with experimental design and basic statistical analyses
• Interest in remote-sensing, and geospatial analytics
