Job Brief
We are looking for a Senior Engineering Project Manager to join our Engineering team! This person will act as a partner to technical staff members and project teams. This person will report to the VP, Engineering and will be a key partner in managing engineering and R&D activities to support technology development and scale-up toward commercialization. Engineering project execution is a key part of this role’s responsibilities. Some travel will be required, depending upon project needs.
This role is preferably based in Oakland, California and can be worked as an onsite/hybrid position. However, for the right candidate a remote position can be considered.

Key Focus Areas of the role may include:

  • Project management responsibilities for this role will cover activities such as internal R&D; pilot plant design, execution, and transition to operation; vendor management, and planning for a commercial demonstration project.
  • Responsible for working with the technical team to develop roadmaps for R&D and engineering project execution in alignment with company goals.
  • This is a role where the project manager can grow with the company as they demonstrate their skill and develop expertise.
  • Support resource planning (time, personnel, budgets) for achieving goals and deliverables.
  • Track progress and metrics for successful development of process and products, identify and dependencies, evaluate risks and communicate status across the team.
  • Help maintain project risk management registers and risk mitigation plans.
  • This role will include interfacing with EPC and vendor project management teams to maintain project schedules and deliverables.
  • This candidate will be working with cross-functional teams, including pyrometallurgy, hydrometallurgy, process engineering, process modeling, and cement teams to coordinate inter-related activities. Will also include working with other company stakeholders such as finance, accounting, business development, and capital projects.

For this role, we’re looking for:

  • 7+ years of progressive career experience in technical fields involving science and engineering.
  • 2+ years of successful technical project management in a relevant industry is a must while 5+ years is desired.
  • A Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering, or a related field, is required. Advanced degrees are a plus.
  • Experience in fields such as chemical processing, hydrometallurgy, pyrometallurgy, mineral processing, and cement production is highly desirable.
  • Experienced user of project management tools such as Oracle Primavera (strong preference), Microsoft Project, or equivalents.
  • Experience is preferred areas such as process hazard analysis (PHA); vendor negotiations; EPC functions in relation to owners teams; the sequence of conceptual, FEED, detailed engineering, construction and commissioning, and ramp-up; capital project cost estimation; project risk management; and running effective technical and business meetings.
  • Demonstrated history in executing complex projects, achieving milestones, and making deliverables.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to travel up to 15% of the time
