What you will do:
The Sr. Mechanical Engineer will primarily contribute to projects spanning experimentation, simulation, and design to progress the company’s novel electrochemical cells towards commercialization.
In this role you will:
- Design, execute, and report learnings of electrochemical and mechanical experiments.
- Develop testing infrastructure for benchtop to full-scale electro-chemical reactors.
- Investigate advanced design concepts and features of electro-chemical reactors/systems through rapid prototyping
- Create and validate process simulation models spanning disciplines of thermodynamics, heat transfer, chemistry, and fluid dynamics
- Develop, operate, and analyze data from testing systems Scope projects and document functional requirements for designs.
- Assist with test plan reviews and formal design reviews
- Collaborates with internal teams, vendors, and outside agencies as needed
- Other duties as assigned
What we need you to bring to the team:
- Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, chemical engineering, or related field of study; or an equivalent combination of related education and experience
- 5 years of related mechanical design or test engineering experience
- Experience with designing, testing, and troubleshooting flow battery, electrolyzer, fuel cell, or chlor-alkali electrochemical stacks
- Demonstrated ability to lead multidisciplinary engineering projects
- Experience with proper experimental design, data collection, reduction, and reporting
- Proficiency in 2D & 3D CAD Systems (preferably SolidWorks)
- Experience utilizing common fabrication techniques (i.e. welding, machining, soldering, etc.)
- Strong organizational and project management skills
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Proficiency with, or ability to quickly learn, Microsoft Office suite of programs including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, OneDrive, and SharePoint.
What we want you to bring to the team:
- An advanced degree in a related engineering field.
- Experience utilizing computational fluid dynamics and/or finite element analysis packages
- Advanced understanding of DFM principles and design standard ASME 14.5
- Experience or the desire to be in a fast-paced, dynamic startup environment
- A safety-first mindset; sharing potential risks with others before they result in hazardous outcomes
- A desire to challenge yourself and take on increasing responsibilities as the company grows
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to stand/sit for extended periods of time
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds
- Ability to operate the following equipment and tools: Drill Press, Band Saw, and Circular Saw
Compensation:
- The anticipated starting pay range for this position is $100,000-$130,000 annually and may be more or less depending upon skills, experience, and education.
