Electra is electrifying ironmaking to decarbonize steelmaking and eliminate 3.7 gigatons or 10% of global CO2 emissions. Leveraging proven industrial-scale electrochemical and hydrometallurgical processes, and backed by leading sustainability-focused venture capitalists, our team is developing lower cost, scalable solutions utilizing intermittent renewable energy to forge a cleaner, greener future for the trillion-dollar steel industry.

With a uniquely collaborative culture, endless passion for developing disruptive technologies, and the opportunity to revolutionize carbon-intensive manufacturing industries, careers at Electra offer challenge, reward, and the chance to bring to market solutions that dramatically improve the health of the planet.

What you will do:

Electra is currently looking for a skilled CNC Machinist to join our team. Working closely with our Manufacturing and Stack Engineering Teams, the chosen candidate will play a vital role in ensuring the durability, cost efficiency, and optimal performance of our electrochemical cells and assemblies. The ideal candidate will enrich our team with extensive hands-on experience, including expertise in CNC machining, a strong understanding of quality control and measurement principles, and commitment to prioritizing safety.

In this role you will:

  • Lead our machine shop in the production of high-quality, custom parts for our novel electrochemical cells.
  • Setup, operate, and maintain our Haas VF6 CNC Machine to manufacture intricate components required for electrochemical cell assemblies.
  • Create machining protocols, establish standardized tooling setups, and refine operating procedures to produce electrochemical cell components from a diverse range of materials, including plastics, metals, and exotic alloys.
  • Optimize CNC machine programs for high throughput using SolidCAM, MasterCAM, or similar CAM packages to enhance efficiency and quality.
  • Perform thorough inspections of machined parts using precision measurement instruments such as micrometers, calipers, and gauges, ensuring compliance with quality standards and specifications.
  • Support the Stack Engineering & Manufacturing Teams' design efforts to ensure product manufacturability while optimizing efficiency and precision in production processes.
  • Maintain detailed records of machine parameters, production activities, and quality control data to provide regular reports to the Manufacturing and Quality teams.
  • Uphold the cleanliness and organization standards of our machine shop, aligning with our 6S program to ensure optimal efficiency and safety.
  • Manage part priorities, communicate part queue timelines, and maintain inventory of raw materials & tooling to sustain machine shop operations.
  • Train and mentor CNC machine operators to ensure adherence to quality standards, safety protocols, and efficient machine operation.

What we need you to bring to the team:

  • 5+ years of relevant experience as a CNC machinist, preferably in a manufacturing or engineering environment.
  • Proficiency in GD&T and DFM principles to uphold quality standards.
  • Skilled in 2D & 3D CAD Systems (such as SolidWorks/AutoDesk) for design, documentation, and fabrication.
  • Strong understanding of machining principles, including tool selection, speeds, feeds, and machining strategies.
  • The ability to adapt, build, and refine prototype and production part setups and fixturing.
  • Excellent attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality, precision machined components.
  • Experience or the desire to be in a fast-paced, dynamic startup environment.
  • Good communication skills and ability to work effectively in a team environment.

What we want you to bring to the team:

  • Experience leading a team of machine operators in a production machining environment.
  • Additional technical training or certification in CNC machining or related field is a plus.
  • Flexibility to adapt to changing priorities and production requirements in a fast-paced startup environment.
  • Excellent project management skills and the ability to manage the machine queue effectively.
  • A safety-first mindset; share potential risks with others before they result in hazardous outcomes.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to stand/sit for extended periods of time while operating machinery or performing tasks on the shop floor.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds to lift or carry heavy materials, tooling, or machined parts.

Compensation:

  • The anticipated starting pay range for this position is $90,000-$100,000 annually and may be more or less depending upon skills, experience, and education.
