Summary

The Sr. Packaging Development Engineer is responsible for designing and developing packaging solutions to ensure that a product is safe during storage, transportation, and usage. In addition, the candidate will be responsible for creating packaging costing and working closely with Project Manager and Technical Operations to ensure a cost effective, durable, and functional pack out design.

Responsibilities

  • Designing, developing, and testing packaging solutions.
  • Experience in building packaging process/systems.
  • Ability to create and implement packaging inspection process.
  • Work with cross-functional teams (Manufacturing, Project Managers, Technical Operations, Supply Chain, Logistics) to ensure that the packaging meets product requirements and consumer needs.
  • Assist the Technical Operations teams on FAT’s (Factory Acceptance Test) for all new packaging equipment.
  • Works closely with Technical Operations for analysis and process improvements.
  • Provides technical input, support, and assistance to Packaging Process Engineer.
  • Creating/updating proposed coasting based on packaging requirements.
  • Provides Sales/PD with appropriate packaging configurations for all new packaging development and packaging configuration based on ability to run on existing equipment.
  • Work cross functionally with Technical Operations to determine if new tooling or change parts need to be purchased.
  • Ensure that packaging follows the regulatory requirements and industry standards.
  • Determine and establishing packaging specifications (Components) according to the nature of the product, cost limitations, regulatory requirements and the type of protection required considering need for resistance to such external variables, as moisture, temperature variation, transportation etc.
  • Interacts professionally with other employees, customers, and suppliers.
  • Works effectively as a team contributor on all assignments.
  • Participates in project meetings.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

Knowledge

  • Minimum of 5 years of comprehensive knowledge of packaging process in a nutraceutical or pharmaceutical industry a must.
  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent in a relevant field (e.g., packaging technology, packaging engineering, material science or related discipline).
  • Ability to work collaboratively with team members.
  • The ability to work in fast-paced environment in a safe manner.
  • Proper use of scales, calipers, calculator, and other physical testing equipment.
  • Strong organizational skills; able to manage priorities and workflow.
  • Understand and familiar with Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMP), SAP (ERP System), Work Instruction (WI), Standard Operating Procedures (SOP), AutoCAD or TOPS software and Batch Records.

Work Environment

The office is clean, orderly, properly lighted, and ventilated. Noise levels are considered low to moderate. Field conditions vary.

Exposed to various raw materials, including allergens (i.e. milk, eggs, fish, shellfish, tree nut, peanuts, wheat, soy).

Physical Demands

May be required to work in restricted spaces and/or under difficult lighting and access conditions.

The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 10-50 pounds and be able to use appropriate support equipment to lift and move greater amounts. Must be able to stand for approximately 8 hours.

Must be able to work independently, in a team environment, and drive projects to solution.

Additional Information
The Salary Range for this position at Lief Labs is $37-$48 (USD). Starting pay for the successful applicant depends on a variety of job-related factors, including but not limited to market demands, experience, training, skills, and education. The benefits available for this position include medical, dental, vision, 401(k) plan, life insurance coverage, wellness benefits, education reimbursement program, and PTO. This position is bonus eligible.
