All roles are on-site Monday – Friday.
Summary
The Sr Process Engineer is considered an area SME and is responsible for ensuring packaging and production efficiencies, identifying operational problems, projects objectives such as cost savings/cost efficiency and developing solutions. This position is a key contributor to the Technical Operations department by gathering necessary data points for all production runs and making time sensitive decisions on the spot and improve overall efficiency of the process.
Responsibilities
- The Sr Process Engineer manages change across supply chain and identifies solutions through simplification and standardization of processes.
- The ability to identify risks and mitigates them through implementation of emerging technologies and process improvements.
- Strong engineering fundamentals and familiarity with Design of Experiment (DOE) and statistical data analysis.
- Provide support to operations by assisting troubleshooting and leading process optimization projects.
- Create/update Bill of Operations (BOO) for new qualified formulas.
- Build and maintain networks across multiple industries to identify emerging technologies and applications to Lief’s supply chain.
- Define critical process parameters for new equipment design and execute IOQ/PQ for new equipment or process.
- The ability to review concepts for commercial feasibility and make recommendations on capitol, as well as identify risks and path forward related to assign projects.
- Collaborate and leads key business partners (R&D, Operations, Engineering) through Technology Transfer process to ensure a reliable product through its life cycle.
- Review and manage trends related to consumer complaints and identifying root cause analysis and corrective actions.
- The ability to lead/assist in packaging component qualifications/Component optimization.
- Management of all packaging deviations and change request.
- Lead FAT’s (Factory Acceptance Test) for all new packaging and production equipment, creating/revising WI (work Instructions) and providing training.
- Be readily available to perform quick and timely adjustments to optimize production and packaging process.
- Lead all pilot and first-time packaging runs. Is responsible for ensuring any changes are within scope of the project and communicated back to appropriate departments.
- Closely work with Tech Ops Manager/Packaging Engineer for analysis and process improvements.
- Safety: Follow laboratory safety protocols and best practices to maintain a safe working environment.
- Additional Duties as assigned.
Supervisory Responsibilities
The Sr Process Engineer will be responsible for the Packaging Engineer.
Minimum Qualifications
Knowledge/Education
-
- Bachelor’s degree in chemistry, biochemistry, food science, or a related field. A master's degree is a plus. or equivalent in a relevant work experience.
- Obtain Lean Green Belt Certification within one year of employment.
- Exposure to problem solving sessions and or focused improvement.
- Proven project planning and management skills with the ability to lead multiple projects.
- Process focused, detail oriented, data driven, passionate about teamwork and a champion of process excellence.
- Project Management Certification a plus.
Experience
-
- 7+ years’ experience in engineering, process development, quality or related field, preferably in the pharmaceutical, dietary supplement, or food industry.
- Ability to work collaboratively with team members.
- The ability to work in fast-paced environment in a safe manner.
- Proper use of scales, calipers, calculator, and other physical testing equipment.
- Strong organizational skills; able to manage priorities and workflow.
- Understand and familiar with Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMP), SAP (ERP System), Work Instruction (WI), Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) and Batch Records.

Work Environment
The office is clean, orderly, properly lighted, and ventilated. Noise levels are considered low to moderate. Field conditions vary.
Exposed to various raw materials, including allergens (i.e. milk, eggs, fish, shellfish, tree nut, peanuts, wheat, soy).
Physical Demands
While performing the duties of this job, the employee may regularly require to talk, hear and grasp items. This position is active and requires standing, walking, bending, kneeling, stooping, crouching, crawling, and climbing all day.
The employee must frequently grasp, lift and/or move and carry items up to 20 pounds.
Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
Additional Information
The Salary Range for this position at Lief Labs is 76k-110k (USD). Starting pay for the successful applicant depends on a variety of job-related factors, including but not limited to market demands, experience, training, skills, and education. The benefits available for this position include medical, dental, vision, 401(k) plan, life insurance coverage, wellness benefits, education reimbursement program, and PTO. This position is bonus eligible.
