YOUR ROLE AT MIRATERRA

We are seeking a Sensor Technician to join the team responsible for generating data for Miraterra’s ambitious work to develop novel soil sensors. You will collect a range of measurements on soil and other alternative sample mediums with the digitizer, enabling cross-functional teams to achieve critical company goals.

WORKING RELATIONSHIPS

Reporting to the Soil Testing Manager, this position will work closely with immediate colleagues and friendly and intelligent scientists and engineers across the company.

IN THIS ROLE, YOU WILL

  • Collect Raman spectra of samples, standards, and other materials of interests on available sensors
    • Prepare samples, transfer samples into pre-labeled sample trays, place samples into each sensor, adjust sensor capture parameters, start the capture routine, unload samples from the sensor, and complete data quality validation and extraction
  • Support experimentation process refinement and optimization
    • Assist with the design of sample preparation, use of the novel sensor, and creation of sensor experiment Standard Operating Procedures
    • Provide feedback about sensor function and usability
  • Conduct sample preparation involving creating mixtures of chemical compounds, natural soils, and other various testing materials
    • Prepare samples, weigh constituents using a precise scale, homogenize samples, clean and label sample holders, transfer sample to sample holders
  • Complete basic data analysis and experiment organization
    • Track experiment ID’s, extract data, plot raw sensor data captured from the experiments and carefully document the measured samples

WE'RE LOOKING FOR SOMEONE WITH

  • The ability to work as part of a small team, coordinating activities and contributing to the overall goals of the team
  • A scientific background: a Bachelors of Science or equivalent working experience
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain meticulous records and work with shared resources
  • Capacity to handle repetitive tasks whilst maintaining high levels of accuracy and consistency
  • Skill at prioritizing, planning, and organizing work activities
  • Someone who exhibits passion about science and or the environment, has a can-do attitude, and is adaptable and comfortable working with time and resource constraints

LOCATION

  • Based on-site in Vancouver, B.C (this role is not eligible for remote work). Technician must be willing to work occasional evening shifts (e.g., 3 – 11 pm).
