Director of Environmental and Permitting
About the Role
The Director of Environmental and Permitting will be responsible for the following.
  • Collaborate with development team and maintain permitting activities from greenfield through construction for wind, solar, and energy storage projects;
  • Conduct site visits to support initial site evaluation and environmental risk analysis, and as the project matures, participate in state agency meetings, tribal meetings, and community engagement;
  • Lead the preparation of National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) and state survey and permitting documents;
  • Select, manage, and review the work of third-party environmental consultants and provide project updates and documentation to the development team;
  • When necessary, represent the company at hearings for permit filings;
  • Develop strategies to mitigate environmental impacts of projects through commissioning;
  • Support legal, finance, and commercial teams by providing permitting-related data to support Power Purchase Agreement bids, project financing, and third-party due diligence;
  • Proactively maintain relationships with state and federal agencies; and
  • Stay apprised of reporting and changes in legislation that will impact the current markets in which company is developing.
About You
  • At least a bachelor’s degree in environmental science, biology, or closely related field.
  • Work experience in an occupation supporting environmental studies and permitting to further development activities gained through at least 6 years of progressively more responsible work experience;
  • Demonstrated ability consulting and negotiating with federal agencies including the Bureau of Land Management, US Army Corps of Engineers, and Federal Aviation Administration gained through at least 4 years of progressively more responsible work experience;
  • Demonstrated ability following National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) processes, including Environmental Assessment (EA) and Environmental Impact Statement (EIS), and representing an entity in public involvement activities such as public meetings and hearings gained through at least 4 years of progressively more responsible work experience;
  • Demonstrated ability drafting state-level permits for solar, wind, transmission, or other renewable technology gained through at least 4 years of progressively more responsible experience;
  • Demonstrated ability supporting permitting of development projects in numerous RTO/ISO’s, including at least three of the following: MISO, ERCOT, WECC, SPP, and PJM gained through the completion of at least 3 projects;
  • Demonstrated ability overseeing environmental surveys for endangered species including eagles, bats, various avian studies including whooping crane, and burrowing owls gained through at least 4 years of progressively more responsible work experience;
  • Demonstrated ability supporting wetland delineation gained through at least 4 years of progressively more responsible work experience; and
  • Demonstrated ability working in collaborative environment where communications cut across various departments gained through at least 4 years of progressively more responsible work experience.
(All years of experience may be gained concurrently.)

Position: 25% domestic travel required.
