Position Responsibilities
Employee Training and Awareness
- Lead Supplier Quality Assessments and project manage Quality-related improvement activities, Kaizen events with cross-functional team members.
- Participate in companywide Quality initiatives utilizing category managers from Supply Chain and Design & Process Engineers as appropriate.
- Champion First Article Inspections with others both internal and external as required.
- Build the skill level of supplier technical and production staff to ensure correct and required testing and inspection is performed.
- Facilitate continuous improvement and learning across all functional areas through training and communication of quality improvements.
Build Quality into the Supplier Process
- Using core tools, provides a proactive approach to building quality into the supplier process with a goal of reducing Incoming Inspection at OEV to an absolute minimum.
- Responsible for sampling and inspection of new product development at the supplier’s facility.
- Coordinate with Quality FAI Engineer, Design & Component Engineering, Manufacturing, and others to determine critical part dimensions. Communicate these to the suppliers and ensure that they are testing or inspecting to ensure their parts consistently meet the requirements.
- Introduce and maintain the Supplier Quality Management Systems including where applicable, FAI’s, PPAP’s, Controls Plans, and FMEA’s as and where applicable,
- Assess suppliers on a periodic basis to ensure they are operating according to the Quality Management System.
- Mentor, coach, and support Supply Chain category managers, buyers and supplier technical staff regarding quality of purchased parts and materials.
- Responsible for managing and monitoring a world-class level of supplier Quality in conjunction with Supply Chain team.
- Monitor along with others the supplier rejections (PPM) with corrective actions to prevent recurrence. Ensure that the quality measures are included in the supplier scorecard data.
- Monitor the supplier Corrective Action responses (SCAR) protocol.
- Ensure suppliers maintain compliance with International Standards (if applicable)
- Serves as a Supplier Quality consultant for purchasing, New Product Development, Engineering, Sales and Management as applicable.
Engineering Change Orders, Regulatory and Compliance
- In conjunction with Supply Chain, coordinate the ECR (Engineering Change Requests) process.
- Assist Supply Chain in the regulatory and compliance processes to include Made in the USA, Reach, ROHAS, Conflict Minerals, Prop 65 and other new requirements.
Problem Troubleshooting
- SIR (Supplier Incident Report) and CAP (Corrective Action Plan) report investigations. Co-lead with Supply Chain, investigations, and work with cross-functional teams to develop an external resolution of supplier non-conformances to prevent a recurrence.
- Coordinate and submit Supplier Deviation Requests (SRD’s) and/or change requests to Design & Process Engineering related to purchase parts drawing amendments.
Continuous Improvement/Lean Enterprise
- Manage the Supplier Portal.
- Continue to develop and implement in conjunction with Supply Chain and others, best practices leading to improvements in lean manufacturing concepts and supplier Quality.
- Establish and utilize frameworks and systems, including tools such as visual management, problem-solving, standard work, and kaizen.
- Ability to cooperate and commit in a team environment to achieve goals and deliverables.
- Resolve difficult or complicated challenges using the problem-solving process.

- Bachelor’s degree in mechanical or electrical Engineering
- 8-10 years of equivalent experience in manufacturing Quality with emphasis on Supplier Development in an automotive/aerospace environment.
Ideal Candidates Will Also Have
Certified Lead Auditor of Quality Management Systems. Lean and/or Six Sigma colored belt certified. A background in machining, sheet metal fabrication, welding, powder coating paint systems, and electrical & electronic component and harness assembly is a plus. Skilled in coordination with internal Supply Chain, Engineering, and Manufacturing personnel and externally with suppliers’ technical staff.
Travel required: Up to 50% (national)
Hours: Hours necessary to achieve the objectives
Location: Kansas City, KS- on-site, full time
Working conditions: Office and/or supplier plant floor setting.
Required to sit, stand, and frequently move about the facility. Required to use safety glasses and other PPE in specific areas, including at suppliers' facilities. May occasionally be required to lift or move up to 50 lbs.
